Ok let's see - we have an image hosted on a profile that is 1 day old and asks you to visit a website with a strange url with a promise of a financial reward on an another website. How do you even imagine that would work? And now, of course, people start crying that their computers got infected with malware. Which is great - every genius who fell for this obvious phishing scam deserved it. I hope your shitty computer burns and you along with it.

The trailer to "Equestria Girls" (the humanized MLP spinoff film) finally was released today. Aaaannnd everyone's freaking out. Again.
You know, it actually looks pretty decent. Bronies... please understand: I know you're a major unexpected demographic for the show. I know you enjoy seeing shout-out's become canon within the show, and appreciate how the creators do little things here and there for you. But... the show isn't made for you. This is not Cartoon Network and the target demographic isn't 25 year olds in college. You're a nice addition to the target demographic of little girls, but you are not the driving force behind MLP.
I don't want this to sound mean, but it needs to be said. This is where it becomes very important to understand the fine line between being a fan of the show and thinking that because you've invested so much energy into the show that you're entitled to things.
I'm sure the movie won't be as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It honest

I find sticking to one style restrictive if you are a beginning/moderate artist! (even professionals I might say! though I can't speak for everyone)
Having a distinctive look on how your art is done and produced is understandable and its a desire to appear unique to the point some one can just SEE your work and instantly think 'Oh! that's Ten-days!' or something along the line. However, when you are trying to find who you are and what kind of art you are to produce, I recommend trying, well, a lot of different things! Different styles, mixing styles, different colouring techinque, brushes, tools, shading. Don't feel dependant on what you are already doing and don't feel pressured by people just for trying new things!
Push out of your comfort zone. Can't draw hands? don't avoid it! draw the heck out of them! (how else are you going to learn?)

Just found out RE: Play is available thru on-demand printing via the "new" TokyoPop/RightStuf. This would be why Stu wasn't about to give me the rights to post it up for free. Sneaky, sneaky, I even emailed him before the holidays and he made no mention of my book going up for on-demand printing.

Please don't buy them. Buying them won't help me at all, I won't see a dime from them and any sales will just make my property seem like it has some money in it which will make it ever harder to ever get my property back.

If you never bought RE: Play and wanted it, please just buy something off my online store instead. There are tonnes of comics on there too:

Or hold on to your money and help support Dire Hearts, my new project that'll be up for Kickstarter later this year.
OR if you need comics now, please support another self published comicker or pick up some lesser loved titles from publishers that may not get the mainstream support Naruto and One Piece gets.

Just ugh, don't spend a dime on an on demand comic unless the proceeds go to the artist. Anyone can make an on demand book on their own thru sites like Lulu and such, don't waste your money on a "publishing company" that doesn't actually PUBLISH a dang thing.

I'll make sure not to buy anything from TP, that's really disrespectful to their artists.

Besides, a lot of their cancelled titles have been snapped up by other publishers already so I don't really know how they're planning on making a return and getting licenses back.

That sucks. I knew something was fishy about the whole 'we'll own the copyright of your work' clause in the Rising Stars of Manga and was going to enter it with something I know I won't be attached to because they were going to keep the copyrights for it anyway.

I really do hope there is some way to get your work back. I remember reading your journal posts about how much you worked on it. I seriously wish Stu goes broke because all of those artists' work he screwed him out of to line his pockets.

It's was pretty much one of the silver linings that Tokyopop going under was a good thing.

I have a curiosity question: is there any clause in the contract that allows the control of the rights to expire if the property isn't actually sold, or are you stuck until TP decides to relinquish control themselves?

I'm just curious because I used to work on a student publication that actually used contracts for the art and stories printed in it, and our contracts stated that if the piece in question wasn't actually printed within a year or two of us acquiring it, then the creator got the full rights back. So I was just wondering if you had something similar.

Regardless, this stinks, and good on you for trying to be the better person. Good luck!

Ah no, it's not bound by a time frame, as long as TP exists they will continue to hold their control over the property. A lot of small press comic companies will allow properties to time out and revert back to their creators if the publishing company is no longer selling the property, but TP isn't one of those types of companies unfortunatley.

It's shameful how much this guy is not only holding on to your copyrights with an iron fist, but is also dragging Tokyopop's name through the mud in doing so. I know he does have the rights, but surely he should have at least asked you whether it was okay to do this?

...I'm probably being very naive and idealistic here, huh.

I really do hope you get your rights back someday...I really enjoyed RE: Play and to think you're not actually getting any payment for your own work is, well, pretty disgusting.

Well one of the big problems with TP has always been the poor way they treated their employees and creators. So informing the creators of the way their properties are being used I dont think ever really entered into the way the company was run, it's sad, but it's not surprising
